We want to thank all those who supported The Kirby Band, both physically and financially, throughout the year 2019.  Thank you to the Kirby Band members who helped in all the aspects of setup and  breakdown at parades and performances with the loading and unloading of chairs, music stands and sound equipment.  It was truly a team effort.

The Kirby Band completed the 2019 season with a final concert on December 13th.  Throughout the season, which began on Memorial Day 2019, the band performed 11 concerts and participated in 10 parades.  3 of the concerts were presented in Nursing Home/Senior Living Centers for those unable to attend a concert in a park setting.  The band also performed two special programs in 2019, a performane at the Arena in Elmira NY for a hockey game and a special 4th of July mini concert in Owego, NY at Court House Square, for a tribute ceremony to all those who have, or are serving, in the military.

Ain't Misbehavin', a dance band with jazz ensemble instrumentation, and affiliated with the Kirby Band, performed 12 programs in 2019.  Visit their page on the website for information and schedule or at

From May through December
both bands combined performed a total of 412 pieces of music, keeping in mind that the Kirby Band 4-week concert series presents a different musical program each week for 3 weeks, with a best of in the 4th week. We have approximately 100 pieces of music that we choose from for all of our concerts.  Ain't Misbehavin' uses the same musical selection process.

Renovations & Update Projects This Past Year - 2019
With a generous anonymous donation, the band was able to design and construct a parking and vehicle storage area in front of, and along side, the Kirby Band Building.  This will facilitate easier access during the winter months and rainy weather conditions.  We also purchased a trailer to transport music stands. chairs, and other equipment to concert sites.

Previous Renovations
With generous financial grants from the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation, of Owego, NY and additional funds from  anonymous donors, the Kirby Band building has had major renovations.  The interior walls were sheetrocked and painted.  The walls have been insulated with blown-in insulation.  The floor has been sanded, smoothed and refinished with several coats of sealer.  Foam insulation has been sprayed underneath the floor to keep the cold air from coming in through the seams.  The foam has also stabilized the floor, making it more solid.  The attic area has been completely insulated. Members of the band volunteered their time and worked many hours refinishing the floors and placing the insulation in the attic.  We are very grateful to our many supporters. With a generous anonymous donation, the band wagon was completely refurbished with, a new floor that will sustain the elements of weather, sand blasting and repainting the entire wagon, new undercoating, along with some mechanical updates.  In October 2017, through a generous donation from an anonymous donor, the Kirby Band Building now has a ramp, making the building accessable to all.  Go here to see photos of the ramp and refurbished band wagon. Prior renovations over the past years have included replacing the roof with new steel roofing, refurbishing and painting the exterior of the building, installing new electrical service to the building, updating the interior wiring, and installing electric heat.
